I never believed that Lord of the Rings would make a good movie, and I only watched a few minutes of any of them before giving up in disgust. I have always, however, thought that The Hobbit could be cut down into a story that would be right for the silver screen.

The Hobbit is a straight adventure story. The principle story about the dragon Smaug would make for a good action movie. There are a great many parts of the book that could be cut out as needed without hurting the Hobbit experience. The original rambles quite a bit and the movie could actually improve things by focusing just a few good chapters.

Here is a fantasy move that I might actually enjoy if it is done right. The only part of the story that I don’t understand, is who the woman is? Gandalf doesn’t have a love interest in the book.
