Congers Lake

We’ve been looking for a new place to walk. Rockland Lake has become too crowded. We walked Congers Lake which is nearby and had a good time. The walk is a little shorter – about 2 + miles, but it was scenic and only a few other people were walking.

I don’t remember the lake having all of those paths and parking lots. Where is the parking lot in the pictures? Do you make the full loop or do you cross over the road in the middle?

This is all new. There is a small lot at the north end. They built a boardwalk over the swamp behind the Congers lumber yard and then the path goes along the east side of the lake to a park at the south end of the lake. The park has a skating rink and picnic areas. The west side of the lake has the train tracks and the town can’t build a walk there.

We walked from Congers to the park and back. It is a very nice paved trail. It is much like Rockland Lake, but fewer people. It is a little over two miles down and back, where Rockland Lake is 3 miles around the lake.

The walk ends at a very nice Ice Cream shop in Congers, so I hope we get to walk it frequently over the summer.

THanks for posting these. My husband and I went for a walk here yesterday and since I forgot my camera I looked online for photos of the new boardwalk. We are thrilled with it and look forward to frequent walks here. Congers has arrived!

I live on Whitman Street and think that although the walkway looks delightful now, we are opposed to it being lengthened around the entire lake as it would go through so many backyards just as it does for that poor family on Stern Place. I sure hope they leave it as is. :)
