Floods

Last night I went out to put the trash by the road. Germonds Road was under about two feet of water. The Germonds Creek had overflowed its banks and the road was flooded. Luckily, I am on the high side of the road and we had no other problems than some wet floors in the cellar. The people on the creek side, though, were thoroughly flooded.

This morning the flooding near my house was gone, but the Hackensack Creek had overflowed its banks and was at least 8 feet higher than it normally is. Route 59 in West Nyack, ironically, was under a foot of water. It is currently under construction to raise it so it will not flood. The newly raised road was till under a foot of water. The construction had added a foot or so to the road height, which was insufficient.

In Westchester County, the usual suspects were under water, and in NYC the east side highway was flooded.

As a result of all this, my bus was late and then took two hours to go the 14 miles from West Nyack to White Plains. I was an hour and a half late for work.

On the plus side, I started reading Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson, which I uploaded to my Kindle last night. I made it through a good chunk of the book. I really like my Kindle.

Well dark clouds are rollin’ in
Man I’m standin’ out in the rain
Well dark clouds are rollin’ in
Man I’m standin’ out in the rain
Yeah flood water keep a rollin’
Man it’s about to drive poor me insane
