1and1 Hosting problems

I have been making some small amount of money off of pages based on eBay rss feeds. In the last 24 hours or so 1and1 disabled an important function that allowed these apps to work. It looks to cost me a few hundred a month so it is time to change hosting companies.

This is very frustrating, as there are lots of applications that use this function. 1and1 might have to fix this, but I won’t stay around too much longer if they don’t.

    Keith, Hi,

Just bought the above domain, used the free website builder to create a one page link to my site, as am on Mac’s me.com.
    (my site is http://web.me.com/theart2heal)

    Two days later – nothing!

    Browsers showing cannot contact server.
I’m not a technician but am a reasonable user.

Have they gone to the wind? This is the question.
All the best Keith with the ‘Wanderings’.
    Graham.

I am not sure what the issue is. If you paid for the 1and1 account you should get the free domain. It takes a day or so for the registration to kick in and the internet to discover the DNS settings. Until then you the domain will not work.

You can go to a command window (start run menu in XP) and ping the site: ping yourdomain.com and this will tell you if the site is visible to the internet.

You can log into your 1and1 control panel and look at the domains and see if yours has been registered correctly (you may have a spelling error).

You have to make sure that your website is connected correctly with domain. It may have only been connected to your 1and1 subdomain because the domain hadn’t kicked in at the time you created it.

Get on their 800 number and see if you can get any help. It might be something simple.

1and1 is not that bad for being such a huge company. I have had mostly good experiences with them. Every once in a while the screw up and I complain, but I have never been mad enough to drop them. (this site is still hosted at 1and1)
