Tab sites are getting take down notices

Several of the popular guitar tablature sites have received take down notices for many of their tabs. I have a tab site: harptab.com, and a lyrics site:rockfind.com. I am worrying that I will get a take down notice on these.

In all fairness, the tab site has converted ring tones and the supreme court ruled that ring tones are “fair use”. I hope that this holds. I make a bit of money off the tabs.

There is another harmonica tab site called harptabs.com (with the s) that has just moved to an overseas server. They had a huge collection of tabs compared to my little site. It could be that they received a take down notice. I am going to research how to host a site in Honduras or one of the other “Data Havens”. This is right out of Gibson’s Neuromancer. I am living the Cyberpunk dream.

I picked up the Piano tab notes for “Golden Brown” by the Stranglers. I’m rather a novice at tab notes and just learning how to sight read.

I find tab notes don’t give enough information. I’m desperately trying to find the sheet music to this song but so far not having any luck.

I checked around. The song is available for sale in some 80’s greatest hits books and there is a Stranglers book of songs. The tab is chords only and is for guitar.

This is a big problem with tab. Very often it is just the chords and any guitar player with an ear can follow the chords in a song, anyway.

Harmonica is generally single note and there are no single note song sources out there that I can find other than the ring tone snippets that I already have.

I have been searching for ASCII music. There was a lot of that around in the 1980s, but I can’t find any archives of ASCII songs.

I don’t know about ASCII music but I hear Noteworthy composer is good for breaking down MIDI files into notes. There are several Noteworth tutotials on YouTube. In Google just type in the song and put MIDI after it. Almost everything is in MIDI but NC is way over my head. The download MIDI file comes up on the default media player.

Thanks for the heads up about the Stranglers Songbook. I’ll be shopping for books this afternoon. Maybe I’ll find it.

    Thanks again
