Mom’s Stories

I am asking for help from blog readers. My mother, turning 80 years young this summer, has been writing down little stories in a spiral notebook. She now wants to see some of her stories in print.

These stories are simple stories about little boys and girls who have little adventures. One that I read was about a boy who goes with his mother to a prison to visit their father and he plays with the other kids while his Mom and Dad talk. Mom had a friend who murdered her husbands lover and Mom used to go visit one or twice a month, so I guess she was moved by what she saw in the waiting room and wrote a story about it. There are lots of little slice of a child’s life stories like this.

Mom is a firm believer in “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say it”. The stories are all positive in outlook, even the prison one. Mom’s style might be described as sugary.

The stories are from the child’s viewpoint and most are first person. Each story is under 1000 words, from what I read, I am guessing most are about 600 to 800 words.

Question: Is there a market site like Ralan’s for children’s stories? These stories are not written so much for children as for mother’s with children. Is this a separate genre? Children’s stories are a hard sell, I would guess, just because my Mom is just one of a million grandmother’s with literary aspirations.

Does anyone know a nice eZine that might publish Mom’s stories?
