Garmin POI Maker

This creates a Garmin Street Pilot Points of Interest File without having to know the Longitude and Latitude. It does an address lookup to find these.

This page was developed using the Yahoo Maps API I am limited to 500 uses per day, so if this is reasonably popular it will break at some during the day.

Enter the Street Address, City and State below. Press "Add POI to List" to add to your POI file. Keep adding locations to the POI file. When complete press "Create File" to download the POI file.

Feb 19,2008 - made changes to form for selective clearing and added <br> option for line breaks for some brands of BPS. I hint that warnings are usually from spelling mistakes, but often still give good results.

There is some discussion at POI-factory.com. I have been checking in there and trying to make some of the changes suggested. Please report errors there and/or use the email above.

For Some brands you may require a break tag (<br>) instead of line breaks. Most Garmin Street pilot and Nuvi seem to like the line feed. If GPX creation fails try again with <br/>. line feed <br> <br/>

Your POI entries will appear below. You can delete any lines that you don't like right in the text box.

        

When you Create the file, a dialog box will come up and ask you what you want to do. Do not use MS Excel to open the file. You should save the file to a poi directory so that you can use the Garmin POI Loader to copy the file to your GPS.

Once you download POI files into your Garmin unit, then an option of "Custom POI's" will appear in either "Extras" or in your "My Locations" category, depending on which GPS you have. You can go to a point of interest or save it to your Favorites.
