Wanderings

Anything you dream is fiction,
and anything you accomplish is science,
the whole history of mankind is nothing but science fiction.

Goodbye Ray

The greatest Speculative Fiction writer of all time has died. Ray Bradbury passed away last night at the age of 91.

Bradbury started as a fan and moved on to become the premier Speculative Fiction Stylist. A Bradbury story is immediately recognizable as being written by no one else. His life and works were unique, wonderful and precious.

No writer has affected my life more than Ray Bradbury. He is the writer that inspired me to create short stories. I have been trying to write a story like Bradbury’s A Medicine for Melancholy for 50 years.

Every October since I was 16, I have read Ray’s Something Wicked This Way Comes, which is, in my opinion, the best book I’ve ever read. In the last few years I have read as many books in the month of October by Bradbury as I could. Each time you read a Ray Bradbury story it is like splashing your face with cold water.

I feel a deep personal loss.
