Wanderings

Anything you dream is fiction,
and anything you accomplish is science,
the whole history of mankind is nothing but science fiction.

Killer Zombie Robots Don’t Cry

I hate zombies. Zombie movies are mindless stupid horror movies without anything approaching intelligence or art.

Naturally, I wrote a zombie story, once.

This story is a little different. The title came to me and I decided it was just the right level of dumb to warrant a short story. I did not, however, feel any great urge to finish the story. It sat in my W-I-P folder for a couple of years.

I saw a contest where the story had to involve robots and human feelings. I have write a half dozen of these and the zombie story was one. I found it, chopped it down to 2,000 words, hacked the ending to matched the contest rules, and submitted it.

The idea of the story is based on a novelette by Harry Harrison, I think, although I can’t find out where I read it. I used a premise similar to the one Harry used, but a totally different treatment.

The story will be in the voting queue for two weeks. The prize of the contest does not involve cash, so I am not invested in it. I only care about winning in that it is an amusing effort. The irony that I hate zombie stories, yet wrote one will not be lost on readers of this blog.

Stop by at the site below if like Killer Robot Zombie Stories. Vote if you feel you must.

An interesting thing has happened. My story is listed as #2 on the first page, but I when I submitted it, it was way down near the bottom of the second page of stories. I wonder what is going on here? Is the re-sort, just random, or does it have to do with the number of votes?
