Haverstraw landslide
I found this reference to the memorial for the Haverstraw Mudslide of 1906. My wife’s Great Grandfather was one of the brick makers who was blamed for undermining the town in search for mud for his bricks. He lost every cent he owned due to the lawsuits that followed this tragedy. According to family tradition, he was the only one who paid, and made another fortune before he died.

Hi Keith,
My great-uncle, Bartholomew was killed attempting to save some folks after the collapse. His father worked at one of the yards. The family is shown as an operator (McGowan & McGovern) of Yard 37 in 1894. Have you any idea how i can retrieve first names of these operators. I believe it to be James E McGovern, Bartley’s father and my g-grandfather.
Thanks,
-J
I also had relatives die in this mudslide.. searching it I stumbled on your site. Is there any other resource you’ve found since for info on this event? Thanks!
