Cat CamI took one of Justine’s computers and hooked some cam software and a $8 video camera to monitor the bay window where the cats live. I don’t think I won’t keep this up for long, this is just a test. Right now it is tilted sideways and pointing out the window towards the front stoop. No cats to be seen. I have to aim it better. I also want to increase the quality. This image is not that good. Sometimes it shows up as a partial image because it is in the middle of updating. The plant that you see is a giant Christmas Cactus that is in a hanging pot.

I want to put this camera somewhere where I can see the yard or a cat hangout. This refreshes every 30 seconds. Click on the image to get the big size and then refresh from time to time. It won’t change much, though. It is black at night. Once I turn off the cam it will never change.

The laptop PC that is doing the work has no battery and the power supply is a cheap generic that doesn’t fit right. I have several similar ones that you can have cheap. They cost more to ship than they are worth.

If the batteries and power bricks were included they would be very neat. What happened to them? They must be on the bottom of a closet somewhere. Did you look under the bed?

I ordered a battery for the HP for $60. I figured that was a nice enough machine to invest some money in it. (3gighz 1 gig of ram, 200 gig disk). I bought a used battery so I am taking a chance. I am watching eBay for the right power brick. I am not happy with the “universal” power supply. The plug keeps falling out in the middle of things. The HP has that monster 1440 pixel screen and built in WiFi.

I love the little Chinese panasonic that you got in Hong Kong. I’ve marked the keys with sharpies so I can find the right characters on the chinese keyboard, but it is still too tiny to type very fast. I use it at night while watching TV. It doesn’t have a Flash card slot, so I haven’t been transferring my camera pictures, though. It’s the only bad thing about the panasonic.

The little 800mhz Dell is cool, but I can’t find a battery for under $100, yet.

The IBM Thinkpad is Dead Dead Dead. I am going to pull the hard drive and sell the carcas on ebay for parts.

The Dell Axim is sick. The backup battery is kaput and the regular battery only lasts a few hours. I am still going to try to configure it as an MP3 player for the car. I have a car charger for it and a 1 meg Secure Digital memory card that I can stuff with mp3 files.

Look around for odd parts. They have to be around there somewhere!
