Sold a story to J
My favorite market is SamsDotPublishing. J and Tyree are the kind of people that I'd like to have at my poker games. If I write a story that wanders outside the lines of the standard spec-fic meme, I can count on them to read it, and even if they don't accept the story, their responses tells me that they "Get It".
I get a deep satisfaction from having a story accepted by these guys. The Telling was a hard sell. It was based on the poem "Telling the Bees" by Whittier. I thought it great idea, but it requires the reader to actually read, and I think that was too much to ask of the standard slush editor. Thank goodness that a story like that can find a market at friendly little zine in a quiet corner of the internet.
Thanks again J!

Always glad to include good stories, especially if they require the reader to think. That should be the reason why we read. I hate putting down a book and instantly forgetting it because there was nothing to it.
Quiet? Shows you how little you know...we're a bunch of hell raisers! Come out to Denver at the end of October for MileHiCon, and you'll see just how quiet we are...
I am a big Jack Kerouac fan and "On the Road" has some good chapters in Denver. Also Denver has a lively Blues scene.
I could stop by the con during the day and hit the Blues Bars at night. I could take the "on the road" tour of Denver one afternoon. I might bring my harps and show those Filk singers some of my chops.
Heinlein lived in Denver for a while and the house he built is still there. I would rent a car and drive out and take pictures.
I will talk to my brother, Ward. He flys all over the world and accumulates lots of frequent flyer miles. Maybe he can get me a cheap ticket to Denver. When is it? 2008?
