TREK XI

There is actually a Star Trek XI in the works. I hope it will be interesting. I never saw the last ST movie. It didn’t seem worth paying the ten bucks to see it in the theaters and I haven’t noticed it on the TV, yet. I was not about to pay $10 to see Data again – he’s not my favorite character. It is a good rule of thumb to avoid Brent Spiner movies.

At poker we had a discussion about who was our favorite ST character. We discussed Spock and Scotty and McCoy. Data and Warf were mentioned. All were highly thought of until one character was mentioned and we all came instantly to a consensus. All the poker GUYS agreed that 7of9 was, without a doubt, our favorite ST character. Of course, the discussion then went to latex foam padding and on to other related subjects until we finally got back to poker.

I hope the article about Shatner appearing in XI is a joke.

I don’t know much about the new film. I’ve heard different rumors…one saying it’s a prequel, and another saying it’s going to be a time travel movie, involving different aspects of the Trek universe.

As far as the last Trek movie…you really didn’t miss much. It was pretty bad, and it did focus a lot on Data…which I guess would haver bothered you, although, and I hope I’m not spoiling it for you, he does die…kind of…

It figures that you liked 7 of 9…clearly the best characters on an all time, all series basis are Spock and Data!

And to think I was going to give you my complete sets of Star Trek tapes!

Not that anyone was asking my opinion but I think the best Trek Character to date was Charlrs Trip Tucker the engineer from Enterprise. His character was easy, relaxed and you could tell he was having fun with the show.

Actually, I was kind of hoping for a Enterprise style Trek X1 because the characters were so good and Next Gen characters are becoming tiersome. Captain Archer was the best Captain to date and one of the most “human” His relationship with his pet dog helped to make him that way and less of a hard nosed $hithead like Kirk to a lesser degree Picard. Don’t get me wrong, I like those characters but Archer had a special quality about him, even though the rarings told a different story.

    J,
I didn’t mean that hate Data, I just hate the way the writers locked onto the pinocchio aspects of the chracter. He should have had some hubris, a feeling of justifiable superiority and not been so wimpy. They overplayed the “I want to be a real boy” aspect of the character and it made him insufferable.
The writers did a similar thing with Spock; over using his conflict of human emotion and vulcan stoicism. At least Spock tended to hautiness and could be brought to earth again by McCoy. Data had no foil.

    Justine,
I am hard wired that way, I like all the trek women (except Kes), I think that Doctor Crusher is hot and I really liked Janeway.

    Jim,
Voyager got lost in the story arc and we never got to know the characters well. In STOS, spock and kirk just wandered around having adventures. This never got to happen in voyager or ds9 and these incarnations were failures. I think that by shoehorning the characters into a story arc, we lost touch with them. The writers had very little room to be creative. (They lost me when they resorted to using Nazis – always a big mistake.)
