Here is an album of pictures I took of the hives before I did the install and the beekeeper pickup at the mall.
I put a frame of capped honey into each hive to try to convince the bees that they should stay around.
I went back and gave them sugar in the feeders. The one hive seems to be settling in and the other one seems very upset. I hope it sticks around.
Here is the video of the install. The sound is so faint that you can’t hear me talking.
I am not surprised the bees are annoyed- I did not know you had to bang them out of their boxes into you hives. Doesn’t that hurt them? Also, how do they know to stay in the hive you just put them in? If it is too strange, why don’t they fly away?
I bang on the boxes to get them out. They don’t fly away because they want to stay with the queen. The queen is in a cage hung inside the hive with a candy plug. She eats the candy to escape, but it takes a few days. By the time she gets out of the cage all the bees accept her and the hive is a real hive.
